Oakleigh Greek Glendi

The Greek Orthodox Community of Oakleigh and District’s “Oakleigh Greek Glendi- Unity through Diversity” free outdoor multicultural festival was enjoyed by all on the weekend of 1 – 2 November. 2014’s event expanded to Warrawee Park and on Drummond Street which enjoyed large audiences. Proudly supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission and the City of Monash, the Glendi is recognised as an outstanding community event that draws Australians from various ethnic communities together, for a great outdoor celebration.

PAN International provided the Risk Management Plans assisting with logistics to deliver a safe event for the Greek community. Even though the weatherwas trying on Saturday, Sunday was a great success beginning with an opening address from the Premier. It was wonderful to see a community having fun dancing, singing and laughing all together.

From little children to adults, community members displayed their skills to display different kind of shows during the whole day. The organisers should be extremely proud of their efforts for delivering an enjoyable event as audience members witnessed traditions passed down to generations celebrating cultural diversity in a heartfelt gathering.
